MagiPodium

What is the MagiPodium?

Kaoru’s MagiPodium is a concert for children aged 6 to 99, combining background stories about the music and the fortepiano.
On stage stands a suitcase. Kaoru takes us on a journey through time with joyful dance pieces. Experience the sound of the historic piano in an intimate setting — an interactive afternoon for young and old alike.

The program includes music by Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven, featuring pieces like the “Fantasia” (circus), minuets, and variations on “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.”

What is a fortepiano?
The fortepiano is the collective name for historical pianos. Unlike the harpsichord, the fortepiano was the first piano to use hammers, making it possible to play both forte and piano — loud and soft.

During this musical journey through time, Kaoru plays her Stein piano: a German instrument from the 18th century, also known as a “Mozart piano.” This piano has five octaves (compared to the modern piano’s seven and a half) and produces a more intimate sound. Instead of foot pedals, it uses two knee levers.

The MagiPodium is one of my dream projects. I have always wanted to create a children’s program with the fortepiano — to let children hear and feel what the piano really sounded like in Mozart’s time.
